A few things About Email

Most of you certainly are so familiar with the term of Email, including the functions of email, how to use email, Email providers, and others related to email. However, some of you may be not familiar even you are still new to the Internet world as well as email, as seen on the search engines where many of Internet users conduct a search by typing the keywords “how to create email”, “how to make email” and other keywords related to email. Therefore, before we step to more complex things than about email such as creating a blog or website, you had better know first a few things about email.

What is Email?

Email is short for Electronic Mail. Like the regular email as you know in general, email functions to send and receive mails from and to others. The difference between regular email and electronic email are only at how to write and how to send. Electronic email does not need a peace of paper to write, and it does not need the postmen to send it because electronic email is sent digitally through the Internet.

Is it necessary to own Email?

In this Digital era, and if you often communicate with your friends or others by mail and do other activities in the virtual world, owning email is necessary even a must. Many of virtual activities require you to own email, e.g. when you register to free blog providers such as blogger.com and wordpress.com, register to social network community such as facebook, hi5, and friendsters, and buy domain or hosting, will require filling out your active email address.

In addition, now many companies implement policy in employee recruitment, i.e. by requiring the job applicants to apply their applications through email. So, you have no more reason not to own an email.

What are the advantages of Email compared with the regular email?

There are many advantages if email compared with regular email. One of them that are more prominent is the process of delivery, which is very fast. It takes only within seconds until the mail is really received by receiver, although physically, the distance between sender and receiver is very far, across cities, provinces, even countries.

Is it free or not to own Email?

In order to own email, there are free email and paid email. For big companies, they have particular email addresses for their employees and they pay for the email addresses. Or if you purchase web hosting, it’s usually not only for the hosting, but also for email account, which is appropriate with the domain name, e.g. the domain name is Yourdomainname.com, then you can create email from the domain name, e.g., admin@yourdomainname.com, empployee1@yourdomainname.com, employee2@yourdomainname.com, etc. The second choice is to use the free email. Today, there are many websites providing free email accounts, for instance:

  • Google.com
  • Hotmail.com
  • Plasa.com

Which one do you choose? It must be suitable with your need. The terms related to Email :

WebMail

WebMail is a website providing email, which is especially to be accessed through the Internet browser. Some webmails that provide the free email are :

  • Yahoo.com
  • Google.com
  • Hotmail.com

Email Address

Email Address is the address that we get when we create email account at email provider website. The examples of email addresses:

aing_tea24@yahoo.com
aing_tea24@gmail.com

Inbox

Inbox is the box or folder to where email messages come. All of the ingoing emails will firstly enter this box or often called inbox folder.

Outbox

Outbox is box or folder to store the outgoing messages or emails automatically. Therefore, with this folder, you can view every email you have ever sent.

CC and BCC

CC (Carbon copy), Bcc (Blind Carbon Copy) are if you want to send the same emails, as the copy email, to many other email addresses, or aimed to notify the persons in the email addresses, that you have sent email the addressee. For examples :

You are assigned by your superior to send an email message to a company or any other addressee, and you are required to send your superior the email message as well. Then the email address should be the email address of the company, while you can send your superior through the field of CC or BCC. So, you have sent email message and your superior knows about it.

Spam Email

Spam Email is the email breaking the rules or privacy of the addressee such as advertisement or other types of email content that the addressee does not hope to receive. Spam Email usually is sent in a large number and continuously thus spending the space of inbox. It can happen because the spam email is usually sent automatically through an application or software. Many email providers have anticipated this case to block spam emails.

Email Client

Email Client is tool or software to make you easy in email management offline (not connect to internet). With the email client software, the email messages in the email server will be downloaded to your computer before you can manage the email messages offline at anytime. The examples of email clients :

  • Microsoft Outlook
  • Thunder bird
  • Windows Live mail
  • And etc

There is also internet browser internet that has integrated with email client such as opera internet browser.
